On March 27, 2024, coinciding with Manatee Appreciation Day, the USPS released the Save Manatees Forever stamp in Silver Springs, Florida. This stamp aims to raise awareness about the threats faced by the West Indian manatee, a gentle marine mammal native to Florida’s inland waterways and warm coastal regions of the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico.
The stamp features a digital illustration by artist Nancy Stahl, depicting a gray-green West Indian manatee placidly lolling underwater near the surface. The design includes two small fish swimming nearby, emphasizing the manatee’s serene aquatic environment. Art director Derry Noyes oversaw the stamp’s design.
The first-day-of-issue ceremony was held at Silver Springs State Park, a location known for its clear springs frequented by manatees. The event featured speakers from the USPS and the Save the Manatee Club, highlighting conservation efforts for these vulnerable creatures.
