These stamps celebrate four of winter’s small yet vibrant offerings:
1.Winterberry (Ilex verticillata): A deciduous holly native to the eastern U.S., known for its bright red berries that persist into winter.
2.Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis): Found across much of the U.S. and Canada, these blackish-blue berries are actually small conifer cones.
3.Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana): Native to the southeastern U.S., this shrub produces vivid purple berries in late summer that often persist into winter.
4.Soapberry (Sapindus saponaria): A deciduous tree found in the southern U.S., bearing golden yellow berries in the fall that remain through winter.
The stamp art features highly detailed botanical portraits of each plant, highlighting the bold colors and rich textures of their berries. Artist Steve Buchanan created the illustrations, and Antonio Alcalá served as the art director.
