🌽 Design and Artistic Background
This stamp series celebrates some of America’s favorite summer produce: watermelons, sweet corn, cantaloupes, and tomatoes. The artwork draws inspiration from vintage produce advertising, including 19th and early 20th-century shipping crate labels, seed packets, and catalogs. These designs were often used by growers to distinguish their products in the marketplace.
The stamps were designed and illustrated by Michael Doret, with art direction by Antonio Alcalá, building upon an initial concept developed by former art director Richard Sheaff.
